Getting a free government cell phone has become essential. Your phone connects almost everything and everyone. A so-called food stamp cellphone is the fastest and cheapest way to stay in contact with your family and friends. It could be a lifesaver in times of emergencies or distress. Free government cell phones will also be your ticket to starting a career, so employers can contact you once they want an interview or are ready to hire you.
The Lifeline Assistance Program provides free government phones to people on food stamps and other reasons. The US government initiated it to help millions of Americans who don’t have access. This FCC-mandated program mandates several service companies to provide devices with mobile plans, which include minutes and text every month. For example, Verizon usually includes 250 minutes or more of calls, text allowances, and some even offer data allocation. AT&T only offers a discounted rate on voice minutes.
Over 12 to 15 million Americans are already enjoying this benefit, allowing them to contact loved ones and stay in the loop for the next career opportunities. You only have to contact one of the best free government providers below to get started.

This company services Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Are There Other Options To Get Free Government Cell Phones?
Some communications companies also provide discounted rates and plans for Lifeline-qualified individuals in some areas. Brands like ATT, Verizon, and US Connect offer these plans for those who are facing financial difficulties in some states. It is best to call your local provider’s customer service hotline to know more and ensure that you get the best deal for your needs. Don’t forget: if you qualify for a Free Government Phone, you also will qualify for help with your heating and cooling bills.
Zoey says
hey dose the phone come with free shipping
Elias Nolan says
No, sorry. Depends on the provider.
April McDowell says
Can you name the top providers?
Elias Nolan says
Yes, Assurance Wireless and Verizon Wireless are the top providers.
Mary Henningsen says
I had 2 Assurance Wireless phones/accounts ca. 2019-2020. Experience so-so. Top problems:
— My service would be interrupted by games popping up (trying to sell them).
— After about 7 months something will give out on the phone. Maybe the charger, maybe the battery. When I went with a different co., same thing happened so I’m not holding my breath on free gov’t phones.
— Sometimes the set-up would change overnight (such as how you answered a call). One time on a trip my husband was trying to call me, the set-up had changed, and I no longer knew how to answer the phone until a clerk showed me. Result disastrous — was not able to pick him up at the airport.
— Sometimes the phone was just out of order for like, half an hour. Happened every few months.
— On that same ill-fated trip w/husb., the Wi-Fi quit working.
I switched to SafeLink. Although the battery died after 7 months, I didn’t have the other problems.

Andrea Orme says
Assurance is going out of business. I just got my notice yesterday. So i need to find a new provider.
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Andrea. This is tough news, but it’s a big development. Which area do you live in?
EVERETTE PRICE says
Soon, none will provide free phones. So add Truconnect to the list. I might go with them and make pen pals overseas since I live in one of those states. Might even get invites.
Emilie Kathleen Gables says
Feel Safe Wireless is VERY good and while Assurance Wireless offers more free minutes and
it’s cheaper to buy additional minutes, everything else about this company sucks. Representatives
are ill informed by several things. I was told I could keep my own phone – NOT TRUE. For an upgrade
through Assurance (one must use one of THEIR phones), I was led to believe that I can a choice, also
NOT TRUE. If you have a lot of time to be on hold to one of their representatives – give them a call,
otherwise you will have a very frustrating experience as I did. I’m switching to Feel Safe, I can keep
my own phone, reps are better informed and I don’t wait as long to speak to one.
Paolo Roxas says
Thank you for sharing your insight and experiences, Emilie! This will help a lot of people in need to make a decision. Cheers!
Brett Salvation says
Apple iPhones and ATT and Verizon!!
Michele says
Wait… WHO is offering free iPhones??
Michele says
I’m just trying to change to a phone that’s not absolute trash. I have assurance wireless and the phone is the Wiko3(?) I think. It drops my calls no matter where I am every three minutes! It doesn’t always receive my texts or send them. And God forbid if two messages are trying to come in at the same time, or if I’m trying to text and I call tries to come in! The thing is literally the WORST PHONE I’ve EVER KNOWN!! PLEASE HELP. I’m desperate.
sure thing says
qlink does not roll over any minutes!
Elias Nolan says
Unfortunately, it’s true.
Qlink Customer says
Qlink does 1000 minutes instead of rollover, unlimited texts, and 2gs of data now. But the free phone still is junk.
Caleb J Millard says
I got a sim card from Q-link last May and haven’t made a single text. Never one! I can’t get any response.
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Caleb! Have you tried their online customer service? Good luck!
lorene biglow says
q link phones company has screwed me over for the past 6 months or more.i advise not to use q link!!!!!!
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Lorene! We’re sorry to hear that. May we know if you switched and which company did you go with? It could help the others here who have bad experiences with QLink. Cheers!
Brett R Augustine says
They roll over my minutes and possibly data. Last month I had 3 gigs …then this month it went to 5 and now it says I have unlimited data . .which I’m going to assume throttles once I reach 5 gigs ..but who knows ..I never use up alot of my data since I have Wi-Fi at home. Also . I kept my own phone and just
got a sim card for my lifeline service.
Elias Nolan says
Thanks Brett!
Michelle says
Hi Britt,
Which provider did you go with?
Barbara J. Garrard says
Thanks for the comment. It will definitely help with my decision. I really don’t care for any of the ones I have seen. I don’t like the minute part. They advertise this though that the smartphones and minutes are unlimited to seniors that are on Medicare and/or Medicaid. I have searched for a week now and I feel most of them have all lied. Very upset.
Anonymous says
No, they never have unfortunately. However, for anyone still reading this in 2021, there’s no longer a need. There’s unlimited everything now. I’m not sure if it’s with all services or only QLink. All I know is with QLink I have unlimited talk, text, and data.
Paolo Roxas says
Thanks for sharing that info!
Michelle Damron says
I don’t know where u all live but, QLink sucks where I live. I haven’t got any service at my home. I have to drive into town which is 20 minutes away. Just to get bars
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Michelle! Care to share which state and city you are in so people can turn to better companies? It might be a wise choice to transfer to another provider if you are having issues with QLink.
Dawn F says
Qlink coverage in any state (as I travel with a friend) is horrible! I can’t even get service a my home address in NE Indiana; I just learned they use T-Mobile as their carrier. The customer service is not good either! I’m changing- I just can’t figure out who offers good area coverage AND has this plan for free and not just discounted…
Paolo Roxas says
Hey, Dawn! We’re sorry to hear about your issues. Please let us know which carrier you switched to. Your feedback will help the other readers here make a sound decision. Cheers!
Tim says
It’s ebb temporary for the pandemic it will go back to normal after it completely ends
Pamela Jo Freeman says
And you’re right they do not roll over any minutes they do nothing for their customers absolutely nothing I’m in the process now of finding a new carrier since qlink Wireless was raided by the FBI and others for ripping off government funds and their customers
Lezlee Johnson says
Plus the representatives are VERY HARD to understand, and get rude when you ask them to repeat themselves so that you can understand what they are saying. I was having trouble with the free phone they sent me,so I had someone call FOR me, and was told that the phone was outdated. So they wanted me to buy a new phone. And when the q link representative was told that they KNEW that the phone they sent me was outdated, and I shouldn’t have to pay anything when the problem was on THEIR end, and the representative
LAUGHED about it and was VERY RUDE. PLUS, I was on hold from 9 in the MORNING till 1 in the AFTERNOON. It is VERY HARD to talk to a LIVE person, and when you are FINALLY able to,they are rude.
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Lezlee! Did you take note of the time, date, and the name the operator used? You can use this information to file a complaint with them. That is unacceptable. Good luck!
Leslie A Hunt says
qlink is the WORST lifeline program provider… EVER!!! I was approved 5/21 & in 8/21 they started messing with my data which was supposed to be in unlimited. we’ll all be the sudden it was down in to 4.5 g. when I pointed out all of the ads & emails stating unlimited everything then they told me I needed to recertify every month at which point I reminded them I was good till 5/22. then I supposedly had service thru another carrier but they couldn’t tell me who it was or for how long… cuz it wasn’t true. you will NOT be able to understand customer service , & trust me this is only the beginning.. they continue to get worse & worse.
Paolo Roxas says
Hey, Leslie! We’re sorry about your bad experiences. Please share which company you switched to so our readers can use it as a reference. Thanks and good luck!
Shannon Valentine says
Do any of them offer better free phones than the original ones they call government phones
Qlink Customer says
Qlink has free shipping. I have even got extra chargers off them just because I could.
Robert says
Qlink has the worst i mean bad customer service they tell you one thing then do another take your chances if you want i suppose if you want a hot pepper poblamo phone and loads of dropped calls then qlink is what you need
Paolo Roxas says
Hey, Robert! We’re sorry to hear your bad experiences. Did you switch to a better provider? Please let us and your fellow readers know. Cheers!
Rob says
Most companies as Qlink n truconnect switch carriers from sprint to t-mobile which is worst of worst n does not work no longer in pa depending where u are as T-Mobile is a terrible coverage n reps , I was told if I need is my phone I’ll
Have drive till I find service are u freaking kidding n sorry sir for putting this here but couldn’t make new post so be very careful who u choice as many FREE providers are now going to worst carrier service possible ($) T-MOBILE
Paolo Roxas says
Thanks for sharing your insight, Rob!
Amanda H. says
Have Qlink through T-Mobile towers using my own phone & although I’m supposed to have unlimited data, I can never use it because I have horrible coverage here in Central Arkansas. So it’s not just in PA. Strange too, I’ve had a mobile hotspot through T-Mobile here in the same areas & had wonderful coverage everywhere, indoors & out. Now with their government service it doesn’t work anywhere!
Tom says
Ebb and ll plans take second priority to their main isp psp customers and the free phones have terrible service signal due to poor components cheap as dirt
Cerise C Karpinski says
Qlink used to be a good company but now they switched to T-Mobile & I get dropped calls in Michigan, Their reps are rude all hard to understand, and they made me buy their cheap government phone that was broke and I couldn’t open it to put in the battery or sim card. Do not go with them. I am switching companies and just trying by reading this to find a good provider with a good free phone. Please someone tell me a good company? (*_*)
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Cerise! We’re sorry to hear about your bad experiences. Could you share which company you switched to so everyone can use your feedback as a reference? Cheers!
Jenayah says
Is it a real iPhone
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Jenayah! There were instances where Lifeline providers offered refurbished iPhones for free. However, most that still do will require you to pay a discounted cashout fee upfront if you want an iPhone instead of what’s free on the menu. Cheers!
PK says
this is so out dated… assurance wireless give you 5gb data for Lifeline in CA
Elias Nolan says
Thanks PK! We updated the article.
EVERETTE PRICE says
I’m switching from qlink to assurance for now because Qlink phone is dying. I am weird and have house phone to use for transition. Saving for good phone to take advantage of TruConnect.
I have way of getting brand new number even though they don’t like porting them, but will save this page and post that tip after I have done it. Most people won’t want to anyway because it involves a highly monitored burner phone company.
Elias Nolan says
Everette
Thanks for your comment. Please do post your strategy. It is a very common question.
Sam wilson says
Did the porting work
Gina Godwin says
In Texas, Assurance Wireless has unlimited talk and text and 3 gigs of data a month.
It doesn’t say that in the article
Elias Nolan says
Thanks Gina!
Jessica Hunsberger says
Yes. Assurance wireless is 4.5 GB of free data in Michigan and Texas as well.
Elias Nolan says
Thanks Jessica!

Tracy Gene Cunningham says
I’m with Safelink and they have been HORRIBLE:
I’d also stay clear of Safelink Wireless absolutely most horrible customer service EVER! I went with them because they where supposedly the best service because they use T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon well guess what, they have absolutely no clue as to which carrier works in any particular area plus after having the pay for 2 sim cards and shipping on both so I could use my own phone it still doesn’t work right. I purchased the first SIM card which was for AT&T and was told that it work with my phone and it would give me WIFI calling which was not on my original SIM card. Well I ordered and paid for the first one and guess what, you got it no WIFI calling with the new SIM card so back to the drawing board and being on the phone, mostly on hold with thier not only foreign but absolutely stupid customer service reps. Well after a total of 13 hours over 3 days I’m finally told “Oh Sir I’m sorry but AT&T doesn’t offer WIFI calling so you’ll have to, I knew it was coming, purchase a new SIM card for T-mobile. I tried to explain that I had just purchased this SIM card from them because they had told me to order a new AT&T SIM card because the first one that I’d bought was corrupted as it did work for a short time but quit working and the customer service rep said that AT&T no longer offered WIFI calling that I’d have to buy a T-Mobile SIM card. They wouldn’t listen or they didn’t care that I have absolutely “0” coverage at my home with T-Mobile nor do we get service with them for at least a 10 mile radius from home. So after purchasing yet a 3rd SIM card I get it and activate it as directed and have “No Service” nothing, nada except for a message that my service has been disconnected due to non-payment. So here again I’m on the phone with them for 2 1/2 days back and forth the first day was only about 5 1/2 hours the second day was a full 7 hours then the 3rd day only about 2 1/2 hours when I finally got service back as well as I guess its going to get (still no wifi calling). I’m afraid to call again because I can not afford to be without a phone yet again plus I refuse to pay the $10.85 again for a SIM card after thier continued fuck ups!
Paolo Roxas says
Hey, Tracy! We’re sorry to hear about your troubles. But please let us know once you’ve resolved it via the comments below so others can get help if they have the same issues as you. Good luck!
John says
Unfortunately, when you call any of these people for advice on their service, whether it’s Tracfone/Safelink or even one of the major carriers, you’re dealing with people who are reading from a script and aren’t paid to think. Sometimes it helps to ask for a supervisor and you might get someone who speaks proper English. Safelink/Tracfone has been great for me, but I don’t contact them for technical assistance. Just buy any unlocked cell phone you want that will work with the carrier with the best coverage in your area. Coverage maps are all over the place, and you just need to enter your zip code to look it up. Google it. I think Verizon is the best, plus they’re expected to buy Tracfone soon. Tracfone now includes 5g service, so pick up one of those phones if you can. SIM cards are dirt cheap. Go to Best Buy and get the Tracfone Keep Your Own Smartphone Sim Kit. It’s only $1 and inludes SIM cards for AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon in the same pack.
As for WiFi calling, it’s free with any Google account, which you’ll need anyway when you set up your Android phone. It’s called Google Voice. Both your Safelink/Tracfone phone number and Google Voice number can be active on the same phone. All my landline phones are connected to a free Google Voice account, then forwarded to my cell phone. I have a second line set up for my fax machine. It’s completely free.
There’s nothing wrong with Safelink/Tracfone’s service. It works flawlessly, but you can’t expect to get any kind of advice from their employees. If you need help with anything, you’re on your own or you need to go online. I’d recommend howardforums.com. There’s a forum specific to Tracfone. Stop paying so much for SIM cards. They’re ripping you off.
Paolo Roxas says
Thanks for the tips, John!
Jaxis says
Google voice is going to stop its link/forward to another phone shortly however I’ve seen that notice for almost a year 0
Paolo Roxas says
Thanks for sharing that bit of info, Jaxis!
Kathy says
Great Info, I just received a Free phone from Assurance and I checked my area’s coverage Rising Fawn, Ga. on a map they furnished on their website and coverage was suppose to be Excellent but when I received the phone (I like it) finally got internet/WIFI set up it works great but when I try to call or text I get an error message Mobile Network not available and I have 1 bar on the phone, you are dead on about their customer service (located in the Philippines) if they can speak fluent English & we understand each other they still could not get me any better mobile network and they do read a script and that’s it for troubleshooting, I have spoken to a total of 8 reps, one ask me if there were any mountains, trees, concrete, steel beams that may be blocking the signal, and yes that describes several hundred miles of my location and have been able to receive calls before (with another carrier) and I still have no phone service from my new 4G Android but the internet works great, so I’m not sure how I find out the best carrier unless I sign up with their service & wait until I have their phone, I don’t want to be committed to one service
Paolo Roxas says
Hey, John! We’re sorry to hear about your issues. Your geography will always have an impact on signals, so the only solution is to look for a company with good feedback there. Let us know which one is better for you. Good luck!
David says
Hi John.
have you ever used Assurance Wireless ?
how do you Feel about Assurance Wireless ?
Wendy K. says
So true about customer service with assurance. It sucks
And so does coverage. I can be on the phone not even moving and will loose signal. Inmy house I have to pitphon ontop of widow air conditioner also I have signal to even use my phone. If I want to talk to someone, I have to put it on speaker phone just so I can use the phone. I loath no hate no I just plain think Assurance is the suckiest company that has ever been. I don’t know who trains the agents to work, but my dog could do a better job. They have no idea how to properly utilize the resources to fix your phone and when you tell them what is wrong they and what youneeddone. They try to do the opposite of what you need. I’ve had my FREE phone turned off so many times for some stupid reason or another. Every time they do it, I point out the mistake and they not only take forever to fix it. I get a new number every time because they can’t just give me th one I had back. In the last 5 years I have had to let everyone know my new number and call all the utilities ,and this is no joke, 25 times. If you can avoid them do not get Assurance wireless.
Paolo Roxas says
We’re sorry to hear about that, Wendy! Let us know how you sorted your issues out.
Elizabeth AlSalamin says
very soon, 3g will be obsolete. meaning, it wont work anymore at all. you might as well go ahead and do the 4g so you can find a phone in 4g that you like and feel comfortable with using.
Christine says
You cannot keep your 3G phone. Starting March 2022, that network is getting completely shut down. The government is giving everyone until then, notice to upgrade their phones. Some Lifeline servicers will send you a new phone (if they haven’t already) or a new SIM card.
Chas says
Is there a program where you can use your own phone you already have but does not have service to it with unlimited talk and text and at least 1 gig of data? It doesn’t have a phone number so I would need a number assigned to it as well, just can’t afford service but I have a used I-phone. Thanks.
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Chas! Almost every one of the Lifeline service providers has a BYOP or “Bring your own Phone” option. You can also go to low-cost alternatives and get a plan for as low as $10. Cheers!
Grace says
wondering which plan is best in terms of phone quality and customer service
having difficulties with Assurance and want to switch to another company
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Grace! Phone models vary wildly between every provider, so we can’t really comment on which one can provide the best. As for the company, which state do you live in? Top companies that are highly recommended aside from Assurance Wireless are QLink and Assist Wireless, but that depends if they offer services in your state.
Susan Burns says
How many of the various companies that provide free phone service to people who qualify offer voice mail & caller ID? Thanks for any response.
Elias Nolan says
Assurance wireless and Safelink both provide voicemail. They do charge minutes for accessing voicemail.
Tyler says

Rachel Rogers says
Very confused. According to the FCC, lifeline providers are required to provide 1,000 voice minutes as of December 2018. There have been various petitions filed by various companies which have resulted in some waivers, but I have done hours of research, spoke with a customer service person at the FCC who was nice, but didn’t find any other information that would contradict that. Obviously most carriers don’t offer that, so there must be a reason. Can anyone help? I currently have Safelink, which is owned by Tracfone, which is owned by a Mexican company called American Movil, but may be bought by Verizon soon. My other option where I live is Assurance, who recently started offering 1,000 voice minutes. Typically the two would always offer the same package. I’ve had Lifeline service since 2014, so am fairly familiar with the changes over the years. I can’t find any info online confirming the FCC requirement, nor denying it.
Elias Nolan says
Rachel
We hear you, there are a lot of discrepancies. You’re best option is to contact your congressman and senator.

I have been on Lifeline since the 90’s (bld fire in NYC and loss of MA and income). The original 1000 minutes was reduced to 350 which I think if memory serves is now standard (and often when mistakes are made by Safelinks and I have to “reapply” and receive the lower amount.
Now in WA. Horrific issues with Safelinks for decades which continue here (overseas NON help) and just spent three months thinking it solved. Now the balance does not work!!! (I have to add my own minutes as well because I spend so much time talking overseas with people who can not help). I was told my ID does not link to the phone (and was told by someone else their computers are not “up to date” with the information and each time another excuse. I was even told once I was never on it!!!)
I finally (today) contacted the state’s A.G. but this was after I had to add more minutes (on indigent SSDI income) due to calling for days and months at a time.
I now have been told I have an “end stage” diagnosis and do not wish to spend any more time spending days, and months with this or any other company.
Any ideas on what else beside safelinks is much appreciated. When I look for reviews it seems they all have issues – sigh.
Thanks
The sad thing is that the companies and owners involved are very wealthy. Carlos Slim is one of the world’s richest men.
“””Mexican entrepreneur Carlos Slim Helú is a self-made man, the son of Catholic Lebanese immigrants to Mexico. Today, he is the chairman and CEO of telecom giants Telmex and América Móvil. He has amassed a net worth of just over $50 billion as of May 2020.””
Why the business is not conducted in America with effecient help is shameful. MHO.
Elias Nolan says
Hello sazure!
Your comments are, unfortunately, quite common for the Lifeline program. We suggest you write a letter to your senator and congressman.
Washington state has several lifeline providers:
Access Wireless
Assist Wireless
Assurance Wireless
enTouch Wireless
Life Wireless
Q Link Wireless
Safelink Wireless
Terracom Wireless
Of these, Assurance Wireless is still the largest, followed by Qlink.
Best of luck!
Jeremy Miller says
Why does Q Link say they are unlimited for those of us on Medicaid, but they disconnect after you reach a certain number of minutes? I was talking with a potential employer, and it disconnected. I had to pay $5 for unlimited minutes to get the service connected again. Q Link sounds shady. It took forever to get a representative, and he could not answer my question. He just kept saying “when you get our new sim card, your services and phone number will transfer”. I asked for the $5 back, and he said “it’s not refundable”.
I realize the company is in another country, but they seem shady for the above reasons, and also because they are pushing some Emergency service for a free tablet. I am not exaggerating when I say that he refused to discuss my issue until I said “YES” or “NO” to this “emergency service”.
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Jeremy! Its best to consult their end-user agreement or your contract to see what kind of boundaries the service has. Good luck!
ZJones says
I have Q Link Wireless in New York City. I get unlimited Talk, Text, and Data at no cost. I’m not sure if that’s some new stimulus benefit or not, but I’ve been with them 2 months now and haven’t paid a dime.
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, ZJones! Qlink does indeed offer a Lifeline plan with no bills, but its data allowance is limited to 4.5gb. Call and text on the other hand, is indeed unlimited. Cheers!
Ellen Ducote says
ZJones, would you please tell me what type of phone you received from Qlink?
Devious mark says
I’ve had qlink for 5 months and have used up to 130 gigs of data a month and never have paid a dime. Never lose service and I live in a small town outside of Spokane, Wa. That usually has bad internet but I get full bars all the time. I’ve used an iPhone 8plus and now a Motorola Droid phone. Never an issue
Paolo Roxas says
That’s good to hear, Devious mark! Please share more details on how you got your plan and what selections you made during processing. It could help the others here. Cheers!
Thursday Parker Washington says
What if you’re not working at the moment receive Snap benefits and in need of a free phone ?
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Thursday! If you qualify for SNAP, that means you also qualify for the Lifeline Program. Which state do you live in? Let us know so we can point you in the right direction.
Dana Warner says
Q Link Wireless has the worst policies and the worst customer service I have ever seen. First of all when I first signed up for their service and ported my phone number over a few weeks in without ANY notice they disconnected my service I found out it was because they could not verify my benefits well that was easy to fix they had wrong dob…my problem with this is that because they totally disconnected me I couldn’t get my phone number back and I had that number for 15 years a simple phone call or text or email could have easily resolved this and I wouldn’t have had to change my number I was very angry
Now more recently I have been having issues with the phone I brought with me to QLINK so I have decided to buy a new phone so I got one from them…when they shipped the phone they shut off my current phone and I was told by customer service that I would have to wait on the new one… 3 days
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Dana! We feel your pain. The process and system to avail of Lifeline plans aren’t always perfect. Have you forwarded your issues to QLink? I’m sure they will be happy to help. Cheers!
Wilma Barner says
I’m with qlink wireless and they are horrible when it comes to providing service and getting to technical support. I depend on my phone to receive calls from my kidney transplant team to update me concerning my transplant. They can’t reach me because I am unable to send or receive calls. I have been speaking with customer service about this since March 10th until the present, with no service still. I have been on hold with them beginning with 47 minutes up to 280 minutes. Then they switch me to technical support with the wait time all over again with the same amount of hold time with still no service. I’m disabled and depends on my phone. Is there someone who can help?
Elias Nolan says

We suggest you contact your local congressman. Ask for Constituent Services.
Debbie Mullins says
I have been with QLink since December 2019, the coverage area is pretty good, however, the free phone they send you in the beginning really sucks!! The speaker isn’t very loud at all, even when you have it on SPEAKER, you can barely hear it. About 6 months after I received it, it started NOT receiving incoming calls or texts. The voicemail messages that I want to save, mysteriously delete themselves within a day or two. Sometimes my incoming calls go STRAIGHT to voicemail on their own. Lately (the last couple of months) EVERYTHING that goes on in the phone, texts, incoming emails, spam ads, Amber alerts, weather updates, EVERYTHING MAKES THE PHONE BUZZZ///BUZZ///BUZZZ!!!! It’s driving me nuts!!! I have gone through ALL the settings and disables notifications, disabled vibrations, I’ve even had to delete the Yahoo email app from my phone, so now I have to look YahooMail up on my Chrome browser, just to check my email. I called customer service times, asking what can I do to stop this, and all they can tell me, is to do exactlt what I’ve aready done that HASN’T HELPED A BIT!! I asked about getting a new phone, and for $25 they’ll be happy to send me a replacement one JUST LIKE THE ONE I HAVE!!! Why the hell would I want to pay $25 dollars for the exact same P.O.S. PHONE?!?! I DON’T WANT TO!!!
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Debbie! Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’ve heard a lot of complaints regarding the phones these companies hand out. They are budget phones after all, so its understandable that their performance won’t be perfect. Going with another provider that has better phone feedback should solve your issue, or better yet, change your plan to a sim-only one and use your preferred phone. Cheers!
Irma Carcamo says
Q-Link is terrible. Our tax dollars are wasted on this service. Brother’s phone hasn’t work since received. Followed all instructions and troubleshooting advice on website several times. They don’t respond to your messages sent via their website or emails except for the occasional generic “how to” …all things I’ve repeatedly did. Called several times when finally got through they couldn’t help me and couldn’t get a replacement for phone I bought from them that never worked (less than 30 days old) unless I paid $20. Then when they couldn’t help me get service they’re committed to provide. They said since it was my brother’s phone they could only give him instructions to troubleshoot. I explained he’s mentality disabled and wouldn’t be able to comprehend.
Asked to speak to manager but he refused. Told him he’s homeless and would have to find him, put my personal iPhone on speaker, call Q-Link again and hope to God we get through to a human and even then the crappie phone I bought from them for my brother wouldn’t be connected to wireless, which they told me would need to be to fix. My brother is an adult; I can’t make him come with me to ideal location for all of this, his mental condition prevents him from thinking like most of us. But he needs phone for obvious reasons.
Q-Link doesn’t care about their customers bc payments coming from the gov’t. It’s the same old situation, if you’re not the paying customer they don’t need to accommodate you. Of course, all of our tax dollars pay for these services. Article and everyone’s comments have been very helpful. I know my next steps but does anyone know where I can complain about Q-Link so that it reaches gov’t officials that approve their contracts? Maybe useless but would like to send formal complaint, not about my specific issues but about their poor and lack of customer service and the service itself.
Paolo Roxas says
We’re sorry to hear about your troubles, Irma. We’re sharing it so it can help others make a decision. We hope Q-Link sees this and fixes your issues. Godspeed!

Has anyone used a jitterbug phone with Access wireless? hard to get any kind of an answer. Our phone is broken and cannot seem to achieve any kind of help resolving the problem. There are no reps to discuss anything with.
Nate Ocean says
Do a google search for “assurance wireless malware”. The initial phone they sent me was garbage, and after a few replacements they sent me an L51, which is not bad for a low end smartphone. However, the phone is shipped from the factory filled with useless crapware (Facebook, Amazon, etc.). Some of the apps can be disabled, but not removed. The worst is “Wireless Update” which is part of the system, and can’t be disabled. Every few days it helps to reinstall malware. Some are fake apps that you have to remove or they take over your phone. (Junk Games, Fake News site, etc.) Many sound like real apps (“flashlight”) but are spyware, adware, malware. It’s so bad that the phone is barely usable. I got a call, and couldn’t answer the phone, because there was layers of junk software that had to be dismissed first. It’s embarrassing that taxpayers paid for these phones illegally filled with junk. The FCC rules explicitly state they can’t have adware, etc. Assurance Wireless denies the malware, but the outside security companies have carefully analyzed the phones.
Christina says
Exactly! I got for my elderly mom a free Unimax phone from Assurance Wireless. Even outside, you have to redial about 5 times before it actually rings the other line and same if I call her phone. And, after I removed most of the advertising crap pre-installed, it re-installed more malware. I just booted it up (over 5 mins to turn on), and another 10 minutes to click out of the advertisements. So, could take 15 mins to call 911 if needed. And, that is with me a technie, able to close these advertisements that kept locking up phone and saying “wait or close app”. It’s useless! And, when I called them, they have no basic flip up phones that she could use. Isn’t this program mainly for low income with phone call ability needs like 911 if needed? Don’t need a useless commercial device that useless to use.

In. Mississippi, I am using q link wireless which seems to be a generic form of tmobile.
We recieve unlimited everything and it costs zero money. If you are accepted, which is simple, you are guaranteed a phone for a year as long as you make one call a month minimum.
They are good and I put my sim card into a brand new unlocked Samsung galaxy s21 and it rocks it well. Just bad ass to have a good stamp service on a thousand dollar phone.
Well 800 anyway. My note was a thousand.

I have only ever heard of QLink when it comes to govt. provided phones & service so Hawaii definitely does have QLink available here.

I have QLink & I also live in the state of Hawaii so QLink is available in Hawaii & has been for at least the past few years. The phone that was sent to me was horrible but there is an option to BYOP & that is what I’m going to try & do. It’s a free phone so getting sent the cheapest phone is to be expected. The service besides that is fine. Hardly any data but I try &use WiFi so I dont have to use the data because the data will run out in less than a day if not. Besides that though talk & text is free & its unlimited as far as locally. Idk about calling outside the state though because I only ever call locally. I know that there are options to add data etc but I have WiFi in my house so I havent had to purchase anything extra. Great program & even though the phone I was sent wasn’t very good at all I cannot complain being that I get free service. Hopefully the BYOP works out well because even if I have to purchase a better phone it’s still a great service & having a phone in an emergency compared to not having one before.. I am grateful.

I live in California and are searching the web for the best free phones out there. I see some only have 1mb of Ram and some others have at least 2gb and 16 Gb rom with 32 to 64Gb external SD storage. Do you have any insight about who has the best free cell phone , and it’s model # with the most memory, big screen, etc ? Thanks.
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Patrick! We cannot comment on the best phone models since companies often give out random phone models. What you should look for is a model with at least 2GB of RAM and a multicore processor before looking at storage. Pick the phones with popular brand names so you can get a better quality unit. Another way you can go about it is to just buy a phone or upgrade the Lifeline plan with a better device to avoid the low-end ones. Cheers!

I have a link and I’m currently looking for a new lifeline and ebb provider. I called when I started with them several years ago because apparently someone stole my pic. My phone was activated and being used by someone that wasn’t me. They wouldn’t suspend the service and charged me ,for my replacement. I didn’t realize I had options and stayed the phone I paid for wS junk. It only had ,8gb of storage and it came so full I couldn’t update without deletinwbut this time is too much I called April ,26 to order a phone because I broke the old one. I was told that a new one would be sent free because of the ,5g upgrade my phone would not longer work. That was April , 26 2021. I was told it would be 7-10 days. Now when I call they tell me nationwide shortage 6-8 weeks and I’ve already bypassed that twice. Phone still being sold but don’t say backordered. It’s been almost 5 months now. I’ve been hung up on lied to disrespected I’m done may qlink as a company laugh as customers ultimately get tired of their bull and end up shutting them down. I’ve never in my life hated a company like them I read review after review on the bbb site it’s sad they are open

The best way to get ahold of Assurance Wireless for customer service now is to message them on Facebook. I usually get a reply within an hour and can chat back and forth that way. Not necessarily immediately back and forth, but way faster than trying to call them. My frustration right now with Assurance is their lack of a phone store online. Because they are switching to T-Mobile, they have had to close the online store to make sure all the phones are compatible. The online store has been closed for many, many months, maybe even a year. I want to purchase a better phone than the free one that was sent to me. However, their free phone is much better than it used to be.

Thanks for sharing, Penelope!

I live in Wa., currently am with Access Wireless & have had nothing but problems with my phone (Hero SP-001, the battery barely lasts an hour), poor service (most of the time 0 or 1 bar), and with customer service (got 1 replacement phone but it was the same crappy one, have called 3 times & promised a new phone but that has never happened, they never call back when they say they will, sit on hold forever, they never know why I called before, make promises they won’t or can’t keep)!! I’ve tried a few of the lifeline phone companies but have never been truly happy with any of them!! I am very grateful that this program is available because I can’t afford to pay for service but you would think that if the government was going to pay these companies they would make sure the companies would be better!! Has anyone in Wa. actually been happy with the phone and coverage with any of the lifeline companies? Which one should I try? I am disabled and really need a reliable phone & service ASAP please help!?

Can someone explain to me why Safelinks call center is in the Philippines? They deal with calif lifeline sevices and the new ACP or whatever? Thats why I can barely understand the rep.s, and each 1 tells you something different? There service was good, but they changed to a new 4g format and my phone does no longer work. But Im not elegible for a new phone even though Ive had my same phone from them 4 yrs ago. I give up!!!
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Cassie! The call centers are outsourced to help keep operational costs so the Lifeline Program can help more people. Did you ever consider switching to another provider?
Crystal Rollay says
How would i get this phone? Do i just get it shipped? And is it actually free from the goverment? My daughter walks home from school and its a pretty far walk and if she ever goes to the mall with her friends i would want her to call me and check in and everything.
Paolo Roxas says
Hi, Crystal! You can contact any of the Lifeline providers listed below via their website to apply. You need to qualify to get a free phone, and you most probably will if you already have other federal assistance benefits like SNAP or Medicaid. They usually just ship it to the address you provided, and the whole process can be done online or via phone. Good luck!

Hi, I’m in Pennsylvania and have been with SafeLink since 2013. I’ve only had 2 phones provided by Lifeline in the past 9 years. My current phone has been malfunctioning for 2 years and getting worse. It’s a 5 inch smartphone. They will not provide another phone. Their service is just fine but their Customer Service is horrible. I’m home-bound and cannot afford to buy a phone. Verizon just bought TracFone and SafeLink. I guess I’m going to have to switch companies in order to get a new cell phone. Which companies provide a decent smartphone for free with similar service as SafeLink in PA? Any assistance is appreciated!
Thanx, Lesa L.
Elias Nolan says
Hello Lesa. You should go with qlinkwireless. https://qlinkwireless.com/.
LeeCoxPnFaceBook says
PALADIES AND GENTLEMEN. BE NICE TO HIM.
IF YOU KEEP READING BELOW ILL GIVE INFORMATION ON THE BEST WAYS TO GET THREE BENEFITS.
The most efficient approach is if you sign up with one of the many providers who now have discounted Wi-Fi for $10 to $20 per month if you qualify by low income or if you receive an assistance program.
Because if you pay the $10 per month out of pocket if you refuse to use your ACP benefit even if the provider offers you free Wi-Fi you will be getting plenty enough Wi-Fi at home for cheap.
This allows you to first use your LIFELINE BENEFIT AND YOUR AFFORDABLE CONNECTIVITY separately, and focus upon getting the best free phone for lifeline, and how to get the best discounted tablet for the ACP program.
If Comcast covers your area, and if terracom wireless also covers your area it is best to first sign up with the Xfinity Internet essentials plan by Comcast.
Then sign up with TERRACOM WIRELESS for your lifeline benefit. They are accepting only lifeline benefits right now. But they are giving 20 GB of high speed data with 500 minutes of talk Plus unlimited texting and a free unlocked dual SIM capable Maxwest Nitro 5P.
Terracom wireless is the best ACP tablet offer also but they may take a while to start their ACP offer. They were supposed to resume in March but they’ve had a SIM card contract problem. A tech person said it was solved and the SIM cards simply require being programmed. So maybe they will soon come out. But some of the workers don’t know as much about this obviously.
IF YOU CAN WAIT TO USE YOUR AFFORDABLE CONNECTIVITY PROGRAM BENEFIT TERRACOM WIRELESS IS SUPPOSED TO GIVE THE SAME TABLET FOR THE ACP PROGRAM WHICH THEY GAVE OUT FOR THE EMERGENCY BROADBAND BENEFIT last year.
A SM-T307 TAB A SAMSUNG 8.4 INCH tablet worth nearly $300 last year. They said they will give unlimited data on it for free wiith at least 20 GB of high-speed data.n when they do I believe the phone data May return to its normal four and a half gigabytes of data, or they may give only 20 GB of data.
If you sign up with terracom wireless for standalone lifeline service you can choose either unlimited texting with a thousand or unlimited minutes of talk, or you can choose 500 minutes with unlimited texting and 4.5 gigabytes of data. But they’ve been getting everyone 20 GB of data, likely because they were supposed to begin their ACP offer in March.
THE ACP BENEFIT PAYS $30 PER MONTH FOR A MOBILE OR WI-FI DATA PLAN. If the data provider you choose also offers a laptop or a desktop or a tablet ACP benefit also pays a one time $100 copay if you pay over $10 but under $50. I’ve seen some providers right off the $10 as an invoice which you owe them so they can get the data plan payment. If you can’t afford the device fee.
SWA CONNECT MAY CHARGE $10 OR NOTHING FOR THE 8-IN OR 10 INCH MOTILE TABLET WHICH THEY OFFER. IT IS A CHEAP DEVICE, around $70 on amazon, but a very very surprisingly decent tablet. Especially if you ask them for the 10-in one. Of three reviews online with 1200 to 1500 total people satisfactory rating reviews were over 90%. But like other budget devices you will have to shop around to get good protection for it.
Some other budget devices sound providers give are surprisingly nice, like the Elite T8 OCTA tablet,: which is made by sky devices… IF U PICK THE BETTER VERSION which has 3 or 4 GB of RAM & a 4,000 or more mAh battery.
Octa 8 core processor & 32 or more GB of ROM helps.
But if I have enough RAM & battery I can accept a quad core processor. And Android 11 or 12 operating systems aren’t necessary. They bogged down devices which aren’t loaded with ram and battery you must learn the dozens of tricks to uninstall and disable as many apps as possible. And then reduce background battery and data access on 2/3 of your apps, so you extend your data plan and your battery which extends the device’s life
Last year’s Sky Devices Elite Octa and 3 GB of RAM with 4,000 mAh battery and an optical processor with Android 11 and 32 GB of ROM.
Stand up Wireless and DAILYTEL US or Inc out of West Palm Beach we’re giving a SKY DEVICEs TABLET. Stand up wireless offers only five and a half gigabytes of high-speed data if you use ACP benefit alone to get a tablet. You must combine both benefits to also get a free SmartPhone and unlimited talk text and data with 10 gigabytes of high speed data. American assistance has the same offer. But their tablet is a FoxxD, made by FOXX DEVELOPMENT and Peachtree Georgia or Texas. They have a very nice 10 and 1/2-in tablet on their change. But I’m not used a FoxxD T8. MAXXSIP ALSO OFFERS THIS TABLET. I stand up wireless day also offer other tablets.

LIKE I SAID IF YOU CAN GET A GOOD FIXED ON WI-FI PLAN WITH PLENTY OF DATA…
You can use your lifeline benefit and your ACP benefits separately to focus upon getting a free lifeline phone. In my area I know of three providers who still give a free smartphone if you use lifeline medicine alone, or if you use ACP benefit alone, or if you use both benefits combined
Terracom Wireless gives a free phone. Isv, so it a great backup the best data plan and

Ok in my experience with Q Link… Which btw is the same company as Assurance…. Has been the worst I’ve had ever. I’ve had multiple sim cards sent to me…. Bc they never and I mean not one time ever worked to set up the service and I followed their instructions EXACTLY AS THEY GUIDED ME TO. I would call customer service and update my address when I moved to a different city, would explain my issues as well as update my new profile information however they kept sending my new sim card to the exact same address from before I moved. Still even attempted to update my new address online for my account but it was like I was never there. Not once to this day has it ever been updated or fixed. On top of that nightmare (as if struggling especially due to inflation) isn’t hard enough for a single Mom like me who has ABSOLUTELY NO FAMILY OR OTHER FORMS OF ASSISTANCE OR HELP WITH MONEY… when I would attempt to try to use other companies to get a free government cell phone and service…. They would all deny me bc it said I had an active account thru the awful companies I listed at the beginning. Tried to cancel…. Obviously didn’t go thru as successful. Oh and even after a cancellation of their service… I would have had to wait an additional 10 whole months before applying and approval for another company. U want to talk about heartless as well as brainless? The suits behind that awful experience should be ashamed of themselves and those legal thieves and conmen are an example of why our Lord or whatever everyone believes as their higher power is more than likely disgusted with what this world has become. It’s quite disgusting in my opinion. Life is more than difficult enough with the demands of our society these days…. And what humans put behind a dollar bill is just plain evil in my opinion. If it isn’t taxable they won’t allow so many things that could be free for the entire world. They shut it down immediately if they can’t gain monetarily from it… While in the meantime people all over the world are losing their lives or living in complete poverty. Tesla had it right and so did so many others. The world is evil bc of those who run it. It’s sad and it breaks my heart when a life is ruined or taken bc of it. That’s all they have on this earth and it is toyed with like a child’s you by the suits who are at homes in jacuzzi’s. Lol I went off on a lot of other things and rants there… I hardly ever speak my voice and opinions bc I feel I can’t change any of it. I just wish the mass hysteria of ppl would look at the bigger picture instead of the BS. Humans matter more than money. I pray for it so much. This topic is just a prime example of how evil is put into our world and effects us. Thanks for allowing me to ramble on and on. I feel a lil better just getting it off my chest ☺️🙏🙏🙏🙏

We’re sorry to hear about your bad experience, Casi. Did you get to switch to a different company? If so, can you share it with the other readers here? Best of luck to you.

I just read Assurance Wireless is going out of business. With the experience I’ve had with that company it’s no surprise. They were the worst company, bar none, I’ve ever dealt with. They are nothing but absolute liars, virtually non-existent “customer service” and the phone they sent me was a P.O.S. right from the outset. Many (and I mean MANY) operational deficiencies; this phone never operated correctly from the minute I got it and I could not get a replacement. QLink is good if you have your own phone but the phones they distribute are a pile of junk(P.O.S.) My advice….avoid dealing with these 2 companies!

I’ve tried Airtalkwireless. After filling out application haven’t received any email or any response. It says I’m approved. Can make an account or get a respond when I reach out. Went to there social media page (didn’t know they had one, or else I wouldn’t of even tried with airtalkwireless.com) horrible experience. Looking for a decent phone with decent service.
Any answers you can give me or help?
Thank you.
